Cloud 9

Despite the sleepless nights, dirty diapers and constant demand, Eric and I could not be happier! We cannot get over how much we love this little person and it has only been 10 days.

We are finally settling into a slight routine ... more in terms of remembering the diaper bag when we leave the house, getting to dr appointments on time and learning to survive off minimal sleep. Speaking of pediatricians, we went in yesterday for Deegan's 2 week check-up and he passed with flying colors. He has gained a full pound in a week (chunk-a-monk), took his heal prick like a champ (must be that Heim pain tolerance) and grew an inch.

Chris and Julia made the haul down to Castle Rock to visit us with little Giana. They ended up being 2 weeks and 1 day apart ... hopefully Deegan likes the older ladies :) Funny story: before they came down Eric and Chris were on the phone planning the little excursion while Deegan and I sat on the couch. For 20 minutes the boys talked about their favorite brands of diapers, how they follow the five S's (Happiest Baby on the Block book), and other baby war stories. I finally had to break in and ask if they ever thought they would be talking about this because usually they are all about motocross and airplanes. This just goes to show that having a child changes you forever!

Nocturnal Tendencies and First time parental escapades

Home - Night 1) SOOOO... It appears that Mommy & Daddy are changing their minds as much as a crooked politician!
We had PLANNED on standing our ground and having Deegan sleep in his nursery while we would 'watch' him on the video monitor from our room.
Well, his first night home proved otherwise. It was bed time, we walked up stairs and simultaneously freaked out about him being so far away from us. Since we had stubbornly NOT bought a bassinet for our room, we crammed our Brains to figure out how to get him into our room without chances of smothering him in our bed.
Luckily Michelle in Las Vegas called and recommended an emergency technique she used once; put him in a dresser drawer, in between us in bed. Well, needless to say, after our laughter stopped, we tried it out, and it worked GREAT! Of course now we have a bassinet (on loan from our friends Soren & Bonnie), and he will sleep right in our room, at least until he is a old enough to sleep almost through the night.

Home - Day 2) Our first outting was to our pediatrician's office. We managed to arrive 15 minutes late, even though it is only 3/4 mile from our house. During the check-up Deegan decided to pleasure us with some poopy, when the doctor asked for a diaper, Alise and I looked at eachother like "freakin idiot". Yes, yes, not only did we forget the diaper bag, it was sitting empty in Deegan's closet with the tags still on it. Luckily our doctor has a great sense of humor and congratulated us for at least remembering to bring Deegan!

Home - Night 2) It appears that Deegan is going to be a night owl later in life. This little guy LOVES to be awake at night. Fortunately he is not always crying while he is awake, but nonetheless, it has made for a couple fun nights for Mommy and I. He has eaten 9 times between 8pm and 8am, so needless to say, we NEED a nap!

We were a little slap happy last night during one of Deegans awake times, and he had a major episode of the Hiccups (FYI - when Mommy gets the hiccups they last for Hours, not minutes), so we figured we would share the show, ENJOY!

It is Official...

Well people, the votes are in and it is unanimous; Deegan is the Cutest Baby EVER! (Official Voter's were Mommy and Daddy!)

Ok, ok, so we get to join the club of biased parents, but at least we can all agree that 'OUR' kid is the cutest!

Momma Bear is not feeling very photogenic today, so I am afraid you have to deal with another picture of Daddy.

Deegan did have the pleasure of meeting 3 of his 5 Great-Grandparents today! He got to meet Grandma Betty & Grandpa Harold in Florida via webcam, as well as Grandma Norma in person (pictured). As a proud Dad, this was defintely the highlight of our day!

The Greatest Day!

Hello Family and Friends! Eric here updating you all with the blessing we all already love, and are just now getting to know; Deegan Oliver Heim!

We were blessed with his birth at 1:11pm on 5/19/09. He weighs 6 lbs. 15 oz. and is 20.5 in. long, probably over a foot long if you add his feet length in there!!!

Anyways, enough with the words, here are a couple pictures for now, and I will follow-up an introductory video shortly thereafter. Alise and I hope you all greatly enjoy the preview. Thank you to our family and friends, both near and far for the love, prayers and support!

Life As We Know It ...

Well, life as we know it is officially coming to an end! We are less then 48 hours away from having Deegan and it will be a whole new world. This was our last weekend kid-less for the next 18+ yrs!!! Eric took me out on a date to the Texas Roadhouse on Friday night which was a treat. We used to go every Friday in college and were actually VIP but they took his favorite item off the menu and that was that ... no more Texas Roadhouse. On a side-note the hostess was seating us in a booth and asked if I would fit in it ... that hurt my little feelers cause I wasn't feeling too huge :(

On Saturday, Eric played raquetball all morning, then we went to his mom's house for Lobster Fest where he proceeded to watch a movie for hours on the couch (that will be sadly missed).

Finally, today we nested and bought flowers, cleaned the house, installed the car seat, did laundry and topped it off by going to my grandfathers 86th birthday party. YIKES!

This time tomorrow we will be in the hospital and on Tuesday we will have a baby! We plan to post pictures immediately as well as video so stay tuned :)
